The Egyptian Red Crescent and movement partners celebrated their international day via the Internet

Under the slogan “Continue to Clap ,” the Egyptian Red Crescent, in cooperation with its partners in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, celebrated the International Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent via the Internet with the participation of more than 1000 volunteers.
The celebration this year comes as tens of thousands of volunteers in the international movement are responding to the most challenging public health issue of our time; The emerging epidemic of corona virus; As the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement come together to provide a second line of defense for governments and their health systems to combat the epidemic, hundreds of thousands of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers work around the clock to maintain the health and safety of communities around the world.
During the celebration that took place for the first time online; Volunteers from the different branches of the Egyptian Red Crescent showed their appreciation to the healthcare workers and their volunteer colleagues working in this exceptional circumstance.
H.E. Mrs. Nevin Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity and the Vice-President of the Egyptian Red Crescent, said that she is keen on a daily basis to follow up the enormous work done by volunteers in all governorates in response to the repercussions of the new Corona virus, and added: “I thank With all my heart, every volunteer and volunteer of the Egyptian Red Crescent, trust that we are with you and your successor, support you and appreciate you, for you are the foundation and strength of this association, and every greeting to each one of you is sparing no effort to get all out of the current crisis safely. ”
Dr. Adel Al-Adawi, former Minister of Health and member of the Egyptian Red Crescent Board member, said that the Egyptian Red Crescent is always present in the heart of societies to help those affected by the people of Egypt, as well as guests of Egypt of different nationalities.
It is worth noting that the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement celebrates on May 8 of every year the International Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the birthday of the founder of the international movement, Henry Dunant, which is the largest humanitarian network in the world working to help millions of people in conflict and natural disasters .
“This year, we are proud of our staff, volunteers and health professionals, and we would like to express strongly our gratitude for their work on the front lines in the face of the Corona pandemic and their efforts to preserve the health and safety of societies around the world,” said Ronald Overtinger, head of the ICRC delegation in Cairo.
Dr. Hossam El-Sharkawy, MENA Regional Director of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, said during the ceremony: “The COVID 19 pandemic has again demonstrated the importance of the role of National Red Crescent and Red Cross societies as the first line of defense during humanitarian crises. From here we must continue to provide them with full support. I congratulate all A volunteer and worker in the Egyptian Red Crescent on the occasion of the eighth of May, and I am proud of everything that they do.
It is reported that the Egyptian Red Crescent works with the ICRC delegation in Egypt as partners in providing assistance to those affected in crisis situations, rapid intervention in emergency situations, restoring family links, disseminating the basic rules of international humanitarian law, and publishing the seven basic principles of the International Red Cross and Crescent Movement Red: humanity, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
In this context, the components of the international movement renew their commitment to provide humanitarian services to societies in all emergency and disaster situations, and to be of assistance and support to all governmental and international efforts in this regard.
